I remember him. I watched a documentary once where Baphomet appeared. They believed that his creation took inspiration from the Horned God of old Pagan beliefs. The Horned God was a symbol of fertility and as such was often depicted with bull horns, or a bull's head, or bull's legs. (Because bull represent masculine fertility) and that Baphomet was the more bull looking figure that he evolved into with time.

He has a very varied origin, and very speculative, It was also considered to have evolved from the Pan, the original Baphomet was actually an Androgen though, it represented both male and female, showing a great reverence for opposites, for example the dark and light moons he points to in the image, representing duality, justice, and compassion. and the original Baphomet had boobies, hehe...

OH yeah I've seen old drawings of him from the middle ages (en documentary of course, I wish I could see one in person), I wasn't sure if that was in reference to the feminine... or if he was flabby... cause we have a dude neighbor and he has bigger boobs than me. I wasn't sure if Baphomet was duel sex or if he just had to do some push ups and lay off the cheese sticks.
